Most of the time the cost you pay is near what I would charge to clean your sidewalk PROFESSIONALLY. Also for those janitors that wash down sidewalks really that's all they do. You really CANNOT clean a sidewalk with a hose and for about HALF THE WATER used by a hose clean, I can clean the sidewalk and REMOVE THE STAINS AND THE GUM!
